Teresa Smagacz
Fractional CFO and Controller
About
With over 30 years of accounting experience, Teresa Smagacz offers strategic financial leadership to clients as a seasoned Fractional CFO and Controller. Her career spans a diverse range of industries, including manufacturing, service-based businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Teresa’s strengths lie in financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and operational efficiency. She has managed everything from daily accounting functions to complex, multi-site financial operations, always with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and results.
Shaped by her father’s love of math and disciplined approach to life as a proud WWII veteran, Teresa developed an early appreciation for structure and organization. This foundation, paired with a natural talent for numbers, made accounting a natural path. Her passion only deepened over the years: whether alphabetizing receipts at her first job with her sisters, managing school budgets while raising four sons, or volunteering her financial expertise for local teams and organizations.
Teresa holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Loyola University Chicago and is a licensed CPA in Illinois. A forward-thinking professional, she spearheaded the transition of an entire PreK–8 school to a paperless system in the early 2000s, well ahead of the trend. Throughout her career, Teresa has seamlessly led or co-led numerous ERP and HRIS implementations, ensuring smooth transitions and happy teams. She has also secured over $5 million in PPP loan forgiveness for clients, combining technical expertise with a deep commitment to client success.
