Mark Mooney is a Principal at DHJJ with more than 21 years of experience in public accounting, specializing in audit and financial reporting. He works closely with clients in the manufacturing and distribution industries, helping them navigate complex financial matters with clarity and confidence. He is also an experienced AICPA Peer Reviewer, bringing a quality-driven perspective to every engagement. Known for his logical thinking, diligence, and reliability, Mark supports clients with a focus on efficiency, transparency, and long-term success.
His career initially began in subprime credit underwriting. He transitioned into public accounting because of the wide range of career paths and transferable skills the field offered. His analytical mindset, combined with a natural curiosity, led him to thrive in audit and assurance services. Mark finds the most rewarding part of his career to be the diversity of work and the opportunity to continuously learn, problem-solve, and engage with different industries.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Indiana University and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Butler University. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 2004 and later earned his Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation. Since joining DHJJ in 2008, he has come to appreciate the firm’s strength lies in its accessibility and personalized service, where fast response times and deep client understanding create meaningful, long-term partnerships.
Outside of Work:
Mark has two grown children and lives in Geneva, IL, with his wife, two dogs, and two cats.
He’s an avid runner and enjoys training for the Chicago Marathon each year.
Mark is deeply involved in his community, currently serving as Board Chair for the Fox Valley United Way, where he’s contributed as a volunteer for over 14 years.
