I love that every day brings something different in accounting. There’s always a new challenge to tackle and a puzzle to solve. It’s very rewarding coming up with creative solutions for a client’s problem, teaching them new things and knowing I’m helping an individual.
About
Colin Shaw is a Principal at DHJJ with approximately 20 years of experience in the accounting industry. He specializes in audit services and brings a well-rounded understanding of both audit and corporate tax issues impacting businesses. He enjoys working closely with entrepreneurs and business owners, offering not only audits, reviews, and compilations, but also general business guidance and tax planning support.
Having grown up with a father who was a CPA, Colin was always taught that accounting is the language of business. He joined DHJJ in 2008, attracted by the firm’s collaborative, client-focused culture, and has since developed strong experience in audit, corporate tax, and business advisory. He works with a wide range of clients including those in the privately held sector, franchisors, construction, and manufacturing/distribution. For Colin, the most rewarding part of his work is the opportunity to be a trusted advisor for his clients, helping them navigate challenges and celebrate successes.
Colin holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Truman State University and a Master of Accountancy from Northern Illinois University. He is a licensed CPA and a member of both the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society.

Colin lives in Naperville with his wife, Emily, and their two children, Finnegan and Connor (affectionately known as “Bee”), along with their dog, Walter.

A huge fan of Pearl Jam, Colin considers Given to Fly (a song about perseverance and positivity) to be his personal anthem.

He’s an avid Indy Car racing fan and has attended nearly every Indy 500 since 1994 with his dad & three brothers, a tradition the family is now passing on to the third generation!
