Steve Silver is the Technical Tax Director at DHJJ, bringing over 30 years of experience providing in-depth knowledge and direction to business owners across all industries. Taxation is a great tool for businesses and business owners, but first, he focuses on economic planning, followed by tax planning. It is these insights that offer the most value to clients and their long- and short-term plans.
Steve’s extensive experience includes tax consulting and planning, tax research, transactional support, and National Tax Office Technical Services. He excels at solving difficult technical problems to find solutions that work for business owners and taxpayers. For instance, when the IRS announces changes, such as the Employee Retention Credit, Steve dives deep into understanding the parameters and is able to communicate to clients what impacts them and offers next steps.
He is a strong advocate for “leading with yes” and working through issues to find the yes for clients and their unique situations. Steve strives to increase operational efficiency by spending time on the most value-added work to maximize client benefits. For example, for clients looking to buy a business, grow a business, or sell a business, he is able to advise during the entire lifecycle of the company, from purchase price, credits and incentives, annual consulting, to exit planning structuring, and maximizing after-tax cash flow.
When clients have issues with the IRS, he is able to assess the situation and act as the middle person with the IRS to solve the problem so clients can get back to running their business.
Steve received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Taxation from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
Outside of Work:
He is a man of many hobbies: live music, meditation, biking, hiking, going to the gym, reading biographies, and listening to true crime and sports podcasts.
Steve is the father of three. Two adult children and “CeCe,” a Golden Doodle who is more human than dog (in her mind). His greatest accomplishment is his two exceptional children.
In his spare time, Steve volunteers at Feed My Starving Children and several mental health facilities.
