Illinois Sales Tax Rate Changes Effective January 1, 2018

By Meaghan Wingbermuehle

Effective January 1, 2018, certain municipalities have changed their sales tax rates.

Please update your computer systems to account for the change. Also, please be sure to inform your sales staff so they can adjust their quotes for the change in rates if materials are going to be purchased or delivered after January 1, 2018.

Some of the local changes are certain Fox Lake business districts (+1.00%), New Lenox (+0.50%), Phoenix (+1.00%), and Woodstock (+1.00%).

The full list of changes in rates can be found in the Illinois Information Bulletin found at: http://www.revenue.state.il.us/Publications/Bulletins/2018/FY-2018-11.pdf . You can look up sales tax rates through the Tax Rate Finder which is at http://www.revenue.state.il.us and located on the left side of the screen under “Quick Links – Tax Rate Database.”
